2012 December - Rebels groups started rioting and take over several cities in the north.
 
2013 March - Seleka rebels overrun Bangui and president Bozize flees the country.
 
2013 August - Seleka leader Michel Djotodia is sworn in as president.
 
2013 September - President Djotodia breaks up with the Seleka. They accuse him of having failed to control the fighters.
 
2013 November - US has doubts on Central African Republic official reports.
 
2013 December - France deploys 1600 troops with the purpose to disarm the militias.
 
2014 Januari - President Michel Djotodia  stops over criticism that he has failed to stop the violence.
 
2014 April - The UN Security Council authorises a peacekeeping force of 12,000 troops.
 
2014 May - French and Estionian troops take charge of security at the airport in Bangui under supervision of the European Union.
 
2014 July - Séléka and Anti-balaka agree to a ceasefire.
 
2014 August - The Muslim politician Mahamat Kamoun is tasked with leading a transitional government.
 
2014 September - The UN formally takes over the African Union peacekeeping mission. Also, the UN's French mission stays in place.
